News Travel Tourism: Typhoon Koinu Prompts Cancellation of Over 100 Flights and Evacuations in Taiwan

Anticipating the arrival of Typhoon Koinu, projected to make landfall in southern Taiwan on Thursday morning, over 100 international and domestic flights have been canceled, and ferry services to Taiwan's outlying islands have been suspended. Additionally, more than 200 individuals were evacuated from the southern region of the island due to concerns of potential landslides.

Authorities have issued warnings about waves potentially reaching heights of up to seven meters. As a precautionary measure, a major coastal highway has been closed. As of Wednesday at 10:00 GMT, Typhoon Koinu was situated approximately 200 kilometers (125 miles) east of the island, moving towards it at a speed of 10 kilometers per hour.

The typhoon has already brought heavy rainfall to mountainous areas in Yilan and New Taipei City in the northeast. Following its impact on southern Taiwan, it is expected to proceed towards the eastern coast of China's Guangdong province, as reported by the Hong Kong Meteorological Observatory.
