The Better World Fund: A Day of Commitment and Solidarity at the Carlton Hotel

The Better World Fund is organizing an exceptional event at the Carlton Hotel during the Cannes Film Festival, a day dedicated to promoting women’s rights, sustainability, and humanitarian engagement. This prestigious event, comprising masterclasses and a gala dinner, aims to support noble initiatives and enhance the positive impact of charitable actions. Here’s an overview of this inspiring program:

Masterclass: Empowering Women, Gender Equality, and Education

The day will begin with a masterclass led by Guila Clara Kessous, UNESCO Artist for Peace. This session will provide a forum for discussion on women’s rights, gender equality, and the importance of education. Guila Clara Kessous, passionate about deconstructing stereotypes and promoting peace, will bring together exceptional speakers to envision innovative solutions for a more just future.

The goal of this masterclass is to raise awareness and encourage participants to reflect on the current global challenges and work together for a more equitable world. Concrete ideas for fostering peace and equality will be shared, and a rich and inspiring dialogue will provide practical solutions to global issues.

Signature of the “International Accords for Women in Diplomacy”

A highlight of the event will be the official signing of the “International Accords for Women in Diplomacy”, an initiative led by Guila Clara Kessous. Inspired by Nobel Peace Prize winner Elie Wiesel and William Ury from Harvard, this declaration celebrates women’s rights and dignity on a global scale. It is the first of its kind, signed by influential international female politicians, aimed at fostering cooperation against violence and promoting women in diplomacy.

Masterclass on Sustainability with Enzo Di Taranto

The afternoon will continue with a masterclass on sustainability, led by Enzo Di Taranto, former Campaign Director for the UN Secretary-General in New York and founder of CIRCLE X – Green Trillion Club. This session will explore business opportunities offered by the new green and blue economy and address the spiritual, economic, and technological implications of these developments, with a particular focus on practical solutions in the age of Artificial Intelligence.

Enzo Di Taranto is an award-winning strategist, a polymath committed to sustainability and innovation. He hosts the multimedia platform “Planet Gold”, which rethinks sustainability, technology, and spirituality for the horizon of 2030.

Gala Dinner

The evening will conclude with a sumptuous gala dinner, organized in support of two NGOs:

Support for Amma’s Charitable Initiatives

Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, known as Amma, has dedicated her life to spreading a message of peace, tolerance, and compassion. For over 35 years, Amma has traveled the world, inspiring thousands of people to follow her path of service to society. Her initiatives created the humanitarian organization Embracing the World, which helps distressed populations in 48 countries through education, women’s empowerment, disaster relief, environmental protection, and more.

Support for the Salaam Baalak Trust

The other supported organization is Salaam Baalak Trust, which works to improve the living conditions of children and young people in vulnerable situations in India. Through educational, healthcare, empowerment, and vocational programs, the NGO works to transform the lives of the underprivileged and guide them towards a better future.

Guest of Honor: Mira Nair

The event will be honored by the presence of Mira Nair, acclaimed director and producer. An Academy Award nominee, Mira Nair is an iconic figure in global cinema, known for her visually rich and vibrant films such as “Salaam Bombay!” (1988), “Mississippi Masala” (1991), “Monsoon Wedding” (2001), and “The Namesake” (2006). She was also one of the first women to win the prestigious Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival.

As an activist, Mira Nair founded the Salaam Baalak Trust in 1989, an organization dedicated to helping street children in India. She also created the Maisha Film Lab in 2004, an initiative to train filmmakers in East Africa. In 2012, she was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian honor.

Mira Nair is also behind the production of “Monsoon Wedding” as a musical, which was presented in New York in 2023 and will soon be on Broadway. Her upcoming projects include films about the artist Amrita Sher-Gil and the class conflicts in contemporary India.
