Brazilian Audiovisual Industry: A Rising Global Hub for Co-Productions, Supported by Cinema do Brasil and Spcine

The Brazilian audiovisual industry is experiencing a dynamic renaissance, driven by a flourishing sector that includes over 43,800 companies (as of 2021) and a box office that generated USD 440 million in 2023. This growth is fueled by the increasing demand for diverse local stories, innovative storytelling, and a rich cultural heritage that captivates audiences worldwide.

Brazil’s international presence continues to grow, with recent successes such as O Último Azul (The Blue Path) by Gabriel Mascaro, which won the Silver Bear at the 2025 Berlinale, and I’m Still Here (Ainda Estou Aqui) by Walter Salles, which made history this year by becoming the first Brazilian film to win the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film.

As the Guest Country of Honor at the 2025 Cannes Film Market, Brazil will shine a spotlight on both established Brazilian filmmakers and emerging talents, offering them a global platform to showcase their work through organized showcases, exclusive work-in-progress sessions, and enriching discussions. These events will help international industry professionals better understand the Brazilian creative landscape and open new co-production opportunities.

Building Connections and Partnerships

Brazil is establishing itself as a leading global co-production hub, having already completed over 500 co-productions with bilateral agreements in place with 13 key countries, including Argentina, Canada, Chile, France, India, Israel, Italy, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Venezuela. Furthermore, the country benefits from over 20 film commissions, including important institutions such as Cinema do Brasil and Spcine, which further strengthen its position in the international film market.

Supported by these key institutions, Brazilian producers are expanding their reach beyond Europe to forge collaborations in Africa and Asia. With a 26% increase in the number of Brazilian professionals attending Cannes last year, the Brazilian film industry is thriving and offering dynamic opportunities for international partnerships.

With government incentives and a strong production infrastructure, Brazil presents an attractive landscape for international investors and co-producers. São Paulo alone injects USD 10.4 million into audiovisual financing, while national initiatives continue to reinforce industry ties and streamline international collaborations. As the Guest Country of Honor at the Film Market, Brazil is ready to engage with producers, investors, and distributors globally to foster new business opportunities and strengthen its international market presence.

Celebrating 200 Years of Diplomatic Relations

Brazil’s status as the Guest Country of Honor in 2025 holds special significance as it coincides with the Brazil-France Season, a year-long celebration marking 200 years of diplomatic and cultural ties between the two nations. This milestone provides a unique platform to deepen artistic, economic, and cinematic exchanges.

Aligning with this historic event, Brazil not only celebrates its shared heritage with France but also lays the foundation for future intercultural collaborations and economic partnerships that will continue to thrive in the years ahead.
