CBRE: Transforming Rhein-Ruhr-Zentrum into a Shopping Resort: After its recent acquisition by Eurofund Group and Signal Capital Partners earlier this year, the Rhein-Ruhr-Centre is poised for a groundbreaking makeover. The renowned CBRE Retail Consulting division, formerly Prime Consulting GmbH, is set to assume management and marketing responsibilities for the Rhein-Ruhr-Zentrum (RRZ) in Mülheim starting early 2024. CBRE, the world’s largest commercial real estate services and investment firm, aims to turn the center into a unique, experience-oriented “shopping resort.”
CBRE Retail Consulting, headquartered in Düsseldorf, brings over 30 years of expertise in leasing, consulting, and managing shopping centers and retail parks. The move follows CBRE’s acquisition of Prime Consulting from CEO and owner Alastair Green, reinforcing CBRE’s commitment to expanding its consulting services for the retail sector in Germany.
Eurofund Group and CBRE have previously collaborated successfully on projects like Puerto Venecia in Spain and UBBO in Portugal. Now, with Rhein-Ruhr Zentrum, they are set to introduce the ‘Shopping Resort’ concept to Germany, offering a blend of retail, inviting public spaces, and family-friendly leisure activities.
Ian Sandford, President of Eurofund Group, expressed confidence in CBRE as a strategic partner, stating, “We have selected a strong strategic partner for this project in CBRE, who will support us in realizing our vision of transforming the Rhein-Ruhr-Zentrum in Mülheim into a regionally significant and innovative district center.”

The Rhein-Ruhr-Zentrum, located in the Rhine-Ruhr region, one of the largest German metropolitan areas with over ten million inhabitants, has been a landmark attraction for the past 50 years. With an extension secured with anchor tenant CinemaxX and negotiations ongoing with new tenants, the shopping center is poised for a revitalized chapter under the expertise of CBRE, Eurofund, and Signal. The venture aims to build on strong relationships with existing tenants while attracting new partners to create an appealing mix of retail, dining, and leisure options.
The Rhein-Ruhr-Zentrum’s central location and historical significance, dating back to its opening in 1973, position it as a key player in the economic landscape of Mülheim.
